 Benesse Corporation announced that it has repurchased its own shares, pursuant to Article 211-3-1-(2) of the Commercial Code of Japan.

Details of repurchase:
Period of repurchase: Between June 27, 2005 and August 4, 2005
Aggregate number of shares repurchased:400,000 shares
Aggregate repurchase amount: 1,457,858,000 yen
Method of repurchase: Shares were repurchased on the Osaka Securities Exchange


1.The following details were resolved at the Board of Directors meeting held on June 24, 2005:
Type of shares: Common stock
Aggregate number of shares to be repurchased: Up to 400,000 shares
Aggregate repurchase amount: Up to 1,480 million yen

2.The number of treasury stock and aggregate repurchase amount as of July 31, 2005:
Treasury stock: 3,889,378 shares
Aggregate repurchase amount: 9,969,243,168 yen
