 Benesse Corporation announced that it has repurchased its own shares, pursuant to Article 211-3-1-(2) of the Commercial Code of Japan.

Details of repurchase:
Period of repurchase: Between October 4, 2004 and October 28, 2004
Aggregate number of shares repurchased:380,000 shares
Aggregate repurchase amount: 1,163,719,000 yen
Method of repurchase: Shares were repurchased on the Osaka Securities Exchange


1.The following details were resolved at the Board of Directors meeting held on October 1, 2004:
Type of shares: Common stock
Aggregate number of shares to be repurchased: Up to 450,000 shares
Aggregate repurchase amount: Up to 1,500 million yen

2.The number of treasury stock and aggregate repurchase amount as of October 29, 2004:
Treasury stock: 2,715,003 shares
Aggregate repurchase amount:5,835,753,177 yen
