Embracing the global era, Benesse, ANJO International, and Berlitz join forces to encourage specialization and language ability in the workforce
Release Date : 2004/01/30
Benesse Corporation, Berlitz Japan, Inc., and ANJO International, Inc. have joined forces in this era of global enterprise to promote a highly specialized workforce capable of conducting business in English. Benesse and Berlitz are the joint developers of the comprehensive online testing system, GTEC (Global Test of English Communication), which measures an applicant's proficiency in practical business English. GTEC has been on sale and marketed widely to companies since September 2003. Lesson material in ANJO certification courses is delivered not only in the classroom by way of conventional lectures, but also via e-learning and the use of DVD and videos as teaching tools. Incorporating correspondence learning techniques, ANJO offers courses for internationally recognized qualifications, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), to prepare students to successfully pass the certification examination. An impressive total of 2,330 students have so far passed all or part of the CPA examinations.
The collaborative steps undertaken by the three companies include the use by ANJO students of the GTEC demo model (*see note) to identify their level of English ability, followed by counseling to help target methods and areas for improvement. Benesse will allow ANJO to use their GTEC demo model free of charge. ANJO students can be guaranteed a place in the Berlitz English course deemed appropriate by their language counselor. This allows students who are taking specialized ANJO courses to learn the English appropriate for their specific needs.
*Note: GTEC demo model: Determining English proficiency level using GTEC takes approximately 80 minutes. The GTEC demo model is a simplified version, which takes approximately 20 minutes. This free version, which identifies a tester's general level of English ability, is scheduled to be released in April 2004.
ANJO will offer the use of its broadband PC equipped classrooms to Benesse and Berlitz as GTEC testing sites. This gives Benesse and Berlitz secure testing sites and allows them to test a large number of GTEC applicants at once. ANJO has classrooms at six different locations throughout Japan with the capacity to test up to 2,000 people per day.
