Benesse Becomes First Private Company in Japan to Run Public Childcare Center

Benesse Holdings, Inc.

Release Date : 2001/01/29

Benesse Corporation has been entrusted by Mitaka-shi, a municipality in western Tokyo, to run the Higashidai Childcare Center, which is slated to open in April 2001. The move was made possible by an easing of regulations in fiscal 2000 allowing private-sector companies to set up and operate licensed public childcare centers. Benesse is already running childcare centers in nine locations nationwide, mainly in the Tokyo area. The company has been establishing childcare centers to meet the needs of parents and guardians, especially working mothers. The new Higashidai Childcare Center is instrumental in realizing this business policy.
